Company Vision

Helsinki GameWorks is an ambitious game development studio focused on delivering new kinds of mobile gameplay experiences and pushing the boundaries of free-to-play games.

The founding team comprises of seasoned industry veterans who have founded several game studios and worked on numerous games during the past two decades.

Helsinki GameWorks is currently working on its first game where physics based gameplay will be taken to a whole new level. Additionally, the studio is working on selected co-development projects with strategic partners.

And as the company's name implies, the studio is located in Helsinki, Finland.

Seasoned Founding Team

Helsinki GameWorks was founded by 11 game industry professionals who together have over 130 years of industry experience from companies such as Remedy Entertainment, Rovio Entertainment, Digital Chocolate, Guerrilla Games (Sony), RedLynx (Ubisoft), IO Interactive (Square Enix), Bugbear Entertainment and Recoil Games.

The team members have worked on over 110 games including such titles as Angry Birds Epic, Agents of Storm, Max Payne, Hitman: Absolution, Killzone Shadow Fall, Quantum Break, Halo 4, the Trials series and the FlatOut series.

What makes this team especially strong is the fact that most of the team members have worked together for years during their past careers.

Kalle Kaivola

Kalle Kaivola

CEO

Prior to joining Helsinki GameWorks, Kalle was a Senior VP at Rovio managing all external game development including titles such as Angry Birds Epic and Go!. Prior to starting in game development in 2007, Kalle worked for nine years in games journalism.

Samuli Syvähuoko

Executive Chairman

Samuli is the founder of Remedy Entertainment, Fathammer and Recoil Games. He focuses on finding the best people and the smartest money to execute the company's business vision. Samuli's biggest talent is inspiring people.

Christophe Pardon

Christophe Pardon

Programming

Christophe started his game industry career in 2003 as lead programmer and CEO of Inphiny, developing mobile games. In 2007, Christophe joined Digital Chocolate in Helsinki and was eventually promoted to Technical Director of Client Engineering.

Toni Hollming

Toni Hollming

Design

Toni started his career at RedLynx as a graphic artist but soon found himself working on level design and eventually fully moving into the design discipline, his greatest passion. His latest project was Remedy's Agents of Storm mobile free-to-play game.

Mikko Finneman

Mikko Finneman

Art

Mikko joined Fathammer in 2004 and was soon promoted to the role of art director. Later he worked at Recoil Games as 3D environment artist. His latest gig was at Remedy, working on the free-to-play mobile game Agents of Storm.

Johannes Päivinen

Johannes Päivinen

Programming

Johannes, aka Jussi, is a versatile generalist programmer who started his games career already in 2000. Like many in the HGW team, Jussi also worked at Recoil Games. He then moved to Denmark to work at IO Interactive on Hitman: Absolution and the engine behind it.

Mika Vehkala

Mika Vehkala

Programming

Mika started in the game industry in 2000 by founding a game studio with Jussi. Mika has primarily worked on artificial intelligence, character animation and gameplay at companies such as RedLynx, Recoil Games, IO Interactive and Guerrilla Games.

Sylvain Cunzi

Sylvain Cunzi

Programming

Sylvain founded his own game studio Coyote Software in 2004. Later he joined Smackdown Productions as CTO and worked on both console and mobile games. In 2012, Sylvain moved to Finland to work at Rovio as Lead Programmer and Technical Director of Games.

Jouni Suominen

Jouni Suominen

Programming

Jouni has been working on physics and graphics rendering technology throughout his career. At Futuremark he worked on both desktop and mobile platforms and was particularly focused on low-level technology development.

Mikko Kautto

Mikko Kautto

Art

Mikko has been creating many forms of 2D and 3D digital art for a long time, first at Bugbear working on triple-A racing games. Mikko then co-founded Recoil Games and worked on an ambitious first person action-adventure and later a gravity defying side-scroller.

Eetu Martola

Eetu Martola

Technical Art

Eetu has been focusing on technical art including effects, shading and rendering. Half artist, half coder, he knows the most intimate secrets of pixels and polygons. He has worked at Futuremark, Undo, Rovio Entertainment and Remedy Entertainment.
